North East Lincolnshire Archives

Old Picture

The Searchroom will be closed to the public during building operations on Wednesday 6th January and Thursday 7th January 2010. We expect everything to be back to normal on Monday, 11th January

From 1st December until 4th January 2010 improvement works in the Town Hall mean that some storage rooms will be shut off, and a few classes of archives will not be open to searchers. The public Searchroom will remain open as usual, and production of other archives will continue as usual. Visitors in December must contact the Archives (01472-323585) to discuss their research before making a trip to Grimsby.

Seasonal Closures: The Archives will shut at 1pm on Christmas Eve, 24th December, and re-open at 9.30am on Tuesday, 29th December. It will close at 1pm on New Year’s Eve, 31st December, and re-open at 9.30am on Monday, 4th January 2010.

The North East Lincolnshire Archives in Grimsby Town Hall collects, preserves and makes available to the public the historic records of North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire.

The Archives holds more than 2,500 metres of shelving filled with 12,000 boxes of original documents dating from the 13th century to the present. The documents contain information about most places in the area, and cover a wide range of subjects.

Archives are a unique, irreplaceable and valuable resource.

They provide information about the past, and they may also contain evidence of legal rights.

If you are interested in family history, village history, house history, school history, graduate or post-graduate research, or legal rights and titles, then the Archives may be able to help you.

The archives has now made available online the index of Grimsby ships registered between 1824 and 1988 and the index of Grimsby ships lost between 1800 and 2000. These can be viewed in the What's in the Archives section.
