Information on CCTV public space surveillance
C.C.T.V. - Helping to make North East Lincolnshire a Safer Place to Live and Work.
North East Lincolnshire Council's C.C.T.V. system is monitored by trained and licensed operators 24 hours a day, 7 days per week , 365 days of the year. Cameras are located in the town centres of Grimsby and Cleethorpes, and other public places such as parks, car parks and Cleethorpes promenade through to Meridian point. The purpose of the CCTV system is to deter and detect crime and promote public safety.
The system is operated in partnership with Humberside Police and other agencies and pictures can be transmitted from the council control room to the police control room, as events are actually happening. Our Control operators are also constantly in touch with Humberside Police Control Room via the Airwaves radio network, giving an instant response to incidents.
In 2009 870 incidents were caught on C.C.T.V. by our operators. 607 incidents were reviewed by the police, resulting in 182 reported convictions.
We store recorded C.C.T.V. pictures from the various town centre cameras for 31 days. They are then destroyed, unless a request to view, or keep them for the purpose of evidence is received within that 31 day period.
Requests can be made by the police, partner agencies, or members of the public and they must meet the required criteria and comply with data protection issues.
Requests must be made in writing using the C.C.T.V. Review Request Form which can be downloaded from the attached link. Forms should be returned to:
The Security Lodge, Doughty Road Depot, Grimsby. DN32 0LL.
