Volunteers

Information on the volunteering schemes available for people within North East Lincolnshire and details on how to get involved.

Inspire

Inspire is a new scheme developed by the Sports Development Unit for the area of North East Lincolnshire.

Inspire is aimed at people who are 19+ or for those who aren't in full time education. The programme provides opportunities for volunteers to build up hours in a sporting environment and be rewarded when target hours have been reached. Hours are monitored through the use of a log book which is completed by the volunteer and are signed off by the volunteer co-ordinator.

Hours can be built up at after school activities, Sport Lincs, holiday activities and evening activities. If you are already a member of a sports club you could volunteer there if you have a senior member of the club who agrees to work with you and sign your hours off.

Step Into Sport (SiS)

SiS is a National volunteering programme for young people in education. The Programme is operated by Sport England, Sports Leaders UK, Youth Sport Trust and locally through the Humber Sports Partnership and School Sport Partnerships. Young people volunteer in their community to develop leadership skills. Scheme supports young people between 14-19 years old.

The benefits of the Inspire scheme and Step Into Sport for volunteers

  • To build confidence, self esteem and organisation skills
  • To make new friends
  • Sense of Achievement; Up to 70,000 volunteers will be needed to help deliver the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in 2012. Volunteering at a Games is a never to be forgotten experience. Inspire will give you the skills to do this!
  • To improve your chances of getting a job; Volunteering is something employers will respect and may give you another stepping stone towards your dream job.
  • To gain new skills
  • Opportunities to gain awards, the more hours you volunteer the better the awards
  • Improve CV - the potential for increased job opportunities.

Benefits of the Inspire scheme and Step Into Sport for clubs:

  • Clubs and organisations depend on volunteers in order to operate.
  • Volunteers need to be supported in their work in a way that enables them to develop the necessary skills to improve.
  • A volunteer support strategy will enable clubs who currently work with volunteers to develop and become more professional.
  • Valuable support from young people aged 14-19 (SiS).
  • Support from the Humber Sports Partnership.
  • The Club can gain promotional benefits from taking part in a nationally recognised programme.
