Gambling Act 2005

The Gambling Act 2005 replaces most of the existing laws about gambling in this country. Responsibility for betting, casino gaming and bingo premises has transferred to local authorities from local licensing justices.
The council is the licensing authority and is responsible for dealing with applications for Premises Licences in respect of betting offices, race tracks, casinos, bingo clubs, adult gaming centres and family entertainment centres. The council also issues permits for gaming machines in members clubs and licensed premises and small society lottery registration.
The Act has been fully operational since the end of 2007.
