British Citizenship Ceremonies
All applicants for British Citizenship are required to take part in a Citizenship Ceremony within 3 months of their application for Citizenship being granted.
These ceremonies are an essential part of the naturalisation process & are intended to both welcome & encourage new citizens to play a positive role in British society.
The ceremonies involve new citizens making an Oath of Allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen, followed by a pledge of Citizenship. There is aformal presentation of certificates & an opportunity to take photographs.
The ceremonies held at North East Lincolnshire Register Office are usually attended by either the Mayor, his Deputy or another local dignitatry & they play an active part in the ceremony itself. Often the Mayor extends an invitation to attend at the Town Hall for refreshments following the formal ceremony.
Ceremonies are usually held on the second Wednesday of each month, with approximately 6 to 8 new citizens participating. Applicants are encourgaed to invite members of their family or friends to attend also. It is possible, for a fee, to arrange an individual, private ceremony. Further details may be obtained by telephoning 01472 324860.
