Scartho Road and Cleethorpes Cemetery Regulations (including Section 500 - interment of children)

  1. For a full grave. A memorial to a maximum height of 92cm (3') and maximum width of 77cm (2'6") and /or a kerbset to a maximum width of 77cm (2'6") and a maximum length of 1.84 m (6') (measured from the back of the headstone) may be erected after 6 months ground settlement period. Subject to the submission of an application, payment of fee, copy of insurance cover for memorial and obtaining written approval from the Council. All memorials must be covered by Third Party insurance.
  2. For the Cremated Remains Plot.  A memorial to a maximum height of 46cm (18") on a base 61cm x 31cm x 5cm (2' x 1' x 2") may be erected and/or a kerbset to a maximum width of 61cm (2') and maximum length of 77cm (2'6") (measured from the back of the headstone), subject to the submission of an application, payment of fee, copy of insurance cover for memorial and obtaining written approval from the Council. All memorials must be covered by Third Party insurance.
  3. In granting permission for such kerbsets (items 1 and 2 above), the Authority retains the right to remove them temporarily to gain access to re-open neighbouring graves.
  4. All memorials must be covered by Third Party Insurance; the Council does not accept responsibility for memorials. The Council reserves the right to remove or lay flat any hazardous or dangerous memorial.
  5. A grave plot garden is permitted to the same dimensions as the kerbsets (see items No 1 and 2 above). The Council retains the right to turn/dig an unkempt plot.
  6. A permanent wooden cross to a height of 92cm (3') is permitted on a grave plot, subject to written approval and fee. A temporary wooden cross is permitted free of charge up to a period of 12 months from the date of interment, prior to a permanent memorial being erected.
  7. All memorial work undertaken must be in accordance with the National Association of Memorial Masons' Code of Working Practice.
  8. For exclusive rights to purchased graves, families requesting a grave to be re-opened for further burials will be responsible for any costs associated with gaining access to the grave.
  9. Ornamental chippings or stones are not permitted unless enclosed in a kerbset for which approval has been granted.

Cemetery Rules

  1. Informal fences, kerbstones or other means of enclosure will be removed as matter of course if they pose a danger to visitors or restrict access to neighbouring graves. In any event, they should not exceed the dimensions for formal kerbsets (item 1 above) for full graves or (item No 2 above) for a cremated remains plot. The Council does not accept responsibility for any items left on the plot.
  2. Informal fences, kerbstones or other means of enclosure will be removed as a matter of course if the grave is not maintained.
  3. Vehicles must be driven with care and at a slow speed and must be kept to the roads. Priority must be given to funeral cars.
  4. Dogs must be kept under control and on a short lead at all times. Dog keepers must remove any dog faeces.

  1. Ornamental chippings or stones are not permitted unless enclosed in a kerbset for which approval has been granted.
  2. All memorial work undertaken must be in accordance with the National Association of Memorial Masons' Code of Working Practice.
  3. The area allocated for the construction of a garden and/or the erection of a memorial is a maximum length (measured from the head of the grave space) of 4' (122 cm) and a maximum width of 2' 6" (77 cm).
  4. A memorial to a maximum height of 3' (92cm) may be erected after the minimum 6 months ground settlement period, subject to written approval and fee.
  5. A kerbset to a maximum width of 2' 6" (77 cm) and a maximum length (measured from the head of the grave) 4' (122 cm) may be erected after the minimum 6 months ground settlement period, subject to written approval and fee.
  6. In granting permission for kerbsets and memorials, the Authority retains the right to remove them temporarily to gain access to neighbouring graves - should such circumstances arise.
  7. Memorials and kerbsets must be covered by insurance/annual maintenance agreement; evidence of this will be required before memorial approval will be granted.
  8. The Authority retains the right to turn/dig any unkempt plot.
  9. The Authority reserves the right to remove any hazardous or dangerous memorial.
  10. Vehicles must be driven with care at a slow speed. Priority must be given to funeral vehicles and care and consideration must be given as to where your vehicle is parked. Please do not drive over any lawned areas of the cemetery.
  11. Dogs must be kept under control and on a short lead at all times. Dog keepers/owners/walkers must remove any dog faeces.

  2. The Authority does not accept any responsibility for any items left on the plot. Items are left entirely at your own risk.
  3. Informal fences, kerbstones and other means of enclosure will be removed as a matter of course if the grave is not maintained.
