Foreword
North East Lincolnshire Council is committed to working on an equal basis for all of its citizens and for those who visit the area for work and leisure. The Council has been examining the implications arising from equality legislation and has set up a team to ensure that the best examples of equality work are integrated into our planning and delivery processes.
It is our intention to share this work with our partners, and to include the work which they are undertaking, to ensure that everyone wishing to access a service within North East Lincolnshire receives that service in a fair and open manner. If this is not the case we will establish clear processes for people to report unfair treatment and an agreed system will be published so that people can see what action is taken as a result of any such treatment.
Our aim in publishing this Race Equality Scheme is to identify the main functions that we undertake and to identify potential areas where inequality could arise. We will then outline what actions we will take to design out inequality and this will include arrangements for monitoring reported incidents of unequal treatment. We will also regularly review and test our policies and actions to ensure that inequality issues are fully addressed and that our proposals are in line with identified best practice. The monitoring role will be undertaken by one of our Scrutiny Commissions with the full support of the Cabinet as we are committed to creating and maintaining services which are open and accessible by all in an equal way.
