Race Equality Scheme - Our Race Equality Values, Principles and Standards

North East Lincolnshire Council recognises and values the diversity of the community living, working, visiting and learning in North East Lincolnshire.

The Council also recognises that genuine equality of opportunity for all has yet to be achieved and that discrimination, whether intended or not, is still a fact of life for many.

We are therefore committed to working towards developing an environment in which all residents, visitors and employees enjoy equality of opportunity in both service delivery and employment by integrating consideration of equality issues into everything we do.

We will do this by

  • Ensuring that equality is built into our employment practices
  • Ensuring that equality is built into our service provision
  • Promoting equality with local organisation/partners
  • Promoting equality within the local community

This commitment is set out in the Council's equalities policy statement:

  • The Council is committed to ensuring equality of treatment for everyone in connection with service delivery, recruitment and employment.
  • The Council is committed to the broad principles of social justice, is opposed to any form of discrimination or oppression and accepts all its legal responsibilities in these respects.
  • The Council is committed to treating equally everyone with whom its representatives come into contact including current and potential service users, its employees and job applicants.
  • The Council is committed to ensuring that no-one is treated in any way less favourably on the grounds of race, colour, national ethnic or social origin, gender, sexuality, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability or political/other personal beliefs.
  • The Council will implement all necessary action and training to ensure its commitments with regard to equality of treatment are fulfilled and will regularly monitor and review progress made in this respect.
