Valuing Diversity - The Council's Equality Strategy

Managing Diversity Complaints

From the Community

The Council already has a corporate complaints procedure and it is widely available in all Council offices. This is currently being reviewed and consideration of equalities issues will form part of the review.

We will take all possible steps to inform all parts of our community of the complaints procedure as part of the re-launch. This will include the use of local media and our own community newspaper and the use of different formats and language where appropriate.

The Council works with other partners to record hate (including race) crime and complaints can be made at any council reception.

One of our actions is to develop a recruitment complaints procedure so that there is a clear route for complaints on this subject.

From our Staff

Staff can complain about equality issues through the Council's Dignity at Work policy or by using the Grievance Procedure.

We will actively encourage both our staff and members of our community to make a complaint if they feel that they have been treated unfairly.
