The Council's Constitution
The Council is required under Section 37 of the Local Government Act 2000 to prepare, keep up to date and publicise a document known as the Council's Constitution.
The Constitution explains how the Council operates, how decisions are made, and by whom and the procedures and processes followed in doing so.
It is a comprehensive document intended to give the reader a clear understanding of the Council's internal mechanisms for decision making at elected Member and Officer levels. It also sets out Codes of Conduct which regulate behaviour and relationships expected of those both within the Council and who have dealings with it.
