Find out information about the Mayor of North East Lincolnshire Council.

At the Annual Mayor Making Ceremony for North East Lincolnshire Council, the following Members were elected to serve in office for the Mayoral Year 2013/14.

  • Mayor - Councillor Peggy Elliott
  • Consort - Mr. Steve Elliott
  • Deputy Mayor - Councillor Alex Baxter
  • Deputy Mayoress - Mrs. Anne Baxter

Some Protocol tips:

Verbal address:

The Mayor - "Madam Mayor"
The Mayor's Consort - "Mr Consort"
The Deputy Mayor - "Mr Deputy Mayor"
The Deputy Mayoress - "Madam Deputy Mayoress"

In accordance with the Local Government Act 1972, the Mayor (as first citizen) shall have precedence in the Borough of North East Lincolnshire on all occasions except when a Royal or a representative of the Queen is present.

If you would like to invite the Mayor to an event you are organising, he will try his best to accommodate you, and therefore, you must initially write (giving at least 14 days notice) to Mrs Karen Weir, The Mayors Personal Assistant (see Contact Information), who will make the necessary arrangements.

When asking the Mayor to attend an event, plenty of notice should always be given to the Civic Office to help to plan the mayoral diary and if there is a main purpose to the event, i.e. opening, judging, ribbon cutting etc, correct protocol is the Mayor should act this out and not anyone else attending.

Always remember that the position of Mayor is non-political and should not give prominence to any one party political group, and should always be respected as such. Any political topics you may wish to discuss with the Mayor at events should be referred to your Ward Councillor. The role of Mayor is purely ceremonial.

If you have any questions on protocol and civic life, or would like the Mayor to attend an event please do not hesitate to contact the Mayor's PA who will be more than happy to advise you.
