European Office - Introduction
The Role of North East Lincolnshire Council in Europe
North East Lincolnshire Council, has since its inception in 1996 had a department dedicated to European Issues. The department was set up as a corporate resource to provide a service to the Council itself and the area.
The service aims to incorporate the European dimension as appropriate to all the North East Lincolnshire strategies to maximise the benefits of EU membership for the area and to influence European policies which impact on the area.
Re-organisation of the Council's structure in 2001 resulted in the expansion of the service through a merger with the Lottery Department.
The European and Lottery Unit endeavour to increase the level of awareness and quality of information about European Union policies, programmes and legislation as appropriate to users. The service aims at developing user friendly materials that provide general background good quality and in time information.
The Council and its area are very dependent on Objective 2 and 3 grants but there are other funds available in areas that are Council priorities. The European Strategy commits the Authority to diversifying into other European grants. Funding available to the area and how to access it is also one of the key roles of the European & Lottery Unit.
