Since the introduction of the Children Act 2004, each Children's Service authority has established a Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) as the key statutory mechanism for agreeing how organisations working with and providing services for children in each local area will co-operate to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and to ensure the effectiveness of the work done for that purpose.
The core function of the LSCB are set out in the LSCB Regulations 2006.
The Children Act 2004 also specifies statutory core members that should be represented on the Board and other relevant additional members of organisations who work with and provide services for children and young people.
As of 4 January 2011, LSCB accredited safeguarding children training is being delivered by Children's and Schools Workforce Development.
