The UK supports a rich assemblage of terrestrial and freshwater habitats, which are home to many thousands of wildlife species. Many of these habitats are protected under various measures.

These measures include:

  • International Conventions
  • European Directives
  • UK Legislation

The Council is responsible for the protection of the internationally important habitats within its boundaries from adverse development. To aid the Council with these responsibilities a Habitats Regulations Assessment will be carried out on all the Local Development Documents, plans and policies that may affect these habitats.
