Where prepared, Supplementary Planning Documents should be included in the Local Development Framework and will form part of the planning framework for the area. Supplementary Planning Documents may cover a range of issues, both thematic and site specific, which may expand policy or provide further detail to policies in a development plan document. They must not however, be used to allocate land.
Supplementary Planning Documents can take a number of forms but generally fall into to broad types:
- Area based. These include masterplans and development briefs which deal with a specific parcel or parcels of land.
- Topic based. These provide additional information on a specific local issue, such as a design guide.
Supplementary Planning Documents will not be subject to independent examination and will not form part of the statutory development plan. However, they should be subjected to rigorous procedures of community involvement.

The Council has not identified any specific Supplementary Planning Documents for preparation at this time. However, this page will be updated with any future proposals.

The Council has prepared the following Development Briefs to guide the future development of specific areas of the Borough:
- Cartergate, Grimsby
- Central Promenade, Cleethorpes
- Guildford Street, Grimsby
