The Governors’ Services team consists of a School Governance Manager, 5 Governor Support Officers, each with assigned schools, and a Clerical Officer who deals with governor training requests and bookings. The team are situated at the Western Technology Site in Grimsby, within the Serco Education North East Lincolnshire Service and under the People & Communities Directorate.

The team provides support to governors and schools. Members of the team serve as Clerks to Governing Bodies (Governor Support Officers) and have extensive knowledge of governing body procedures. They undertake training and briefing sessions on a regular basis. A comprehensive induction programme is in place for new members of staff.

Governors’ Services provide a full support service for School Governing Bodies in accordance with the targets outlined in the schools’ SLA (Service Level Agreement). Governor Support Officers advise on all constitutional matters, duties and powers within the broad legislative framework and provide a clerking service for meetings of the Governing Body to ensure that schools meet their statutory obligations.

Each term the team run a comprehensive range of Governor training courses for new and experienced governors to ensure that they are able to discharge their responsibilities confidently, effectively and efficiently. Access to professionally prepared and delivered training helps to improve governing body effectiveness and assist schools in the drive to raise standards. For information about these events please refer to our Governor Training Programme or phone us using the contact details attached. We also offer in-house training specific to the needs of individual governing bodies. Please contact us for more information.

The governing body has general responsibility for the conduct of the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement. The governing body is responsible for raising standards, through their three key roles of setting strategic direction, ensuring accountability and monitoring and evaluating school performance.

If you would like to serve as an authority or Community Governor for Governing Bodies of Schools in North East Lincolnshire please complete the application form attached.
