Music and Performing Arts Services (MAPAS) currently operate a scheme for the hire of musical instruments owned by North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC).
With effect from September 2008, a charge of £30.00 is to be made annually, which contributes to the costs of a developing resource of quality instruments for pupils to use.
The aim of the scheme is to provide quality instruments on which pupils can gain initial experience.
It is hoped that the scheme will complement the existing Musical Instrument Purchase Scheme (MIPS) which allows parents/guardians to buy instruments at considerable savings, with the added advantage of interest free payments spread over twelve months. It is hoped that parents/guardians will consider purchasing an instrument for use by their child after they have been learning for twelve months, therefore, releasing the hire instruments for the use of further pupils.
It is appreciated that this may not be realistic in the case of very expensive instruments.
