This programme recommends a selected range of musical instruments for parents/guardians to purchase. These are available to purchase in full or over a 12-month period interest free (a 24-month period is applicable for instruments where the educational price is over £500.00).

To order any instrument a 10% non-returnable deposit or payment in full is required. The monthly payments via Direct Debit will commence approximately 1 month after the instrument has been supplied. Under this scheme VAT is not payable by the parent/guardian and Music & Performing Arts Services (MAPAS) are usually able to pass on generous discounts that have been negotiated from approved suppliers.

A small administration fee of 10% (5% for instruments over £500.00) of the discounted educational price is added to the cost of the instrument.

To qualify for the scheme you must be able to answer “Yes” to the following questions:

  • Does the pupil attend a North East Lincolnshire Council School?
  • Will the terms of the agreement be completed before the pupil leaves the North East Lincolnshire School?
  • Will the pupil be receiving lessons on a regular basis from an Accredited Teacher for the full period of the agreement?
  • Will the lessons take place within the school day on North East Lincolnshire Council premises?

Conditions:

  • Most instruments are supplied subject to the manufacturer’s 12-month guarantee. This does not cover faults which develop due to wear and tear or consumable parts of the instrument such as strings or reeds.
  • The scheme does not include or provide insurance cover. Therefore parents/guardians are advised to make their own insurance arrangements;
  • Most instruments are supplied brand new as complete outfits including cases and required accessories. All instruments are checked by the suppliers before being distributed to MAPAS;
  • Parents/guardians must not sell instruments during the agreement period;
  • Failure to comply with any of these conditions at any time during the agreement means that the discounted cost of the instrument (together with the administrative charge) plus the Value Added Tax becomes immediately due.

If you are interested in purchasing a musical instrument for your son/daughter please discuss this initially with your child’s Accredited Teacher. He/she will provide advice on the most suitable instrument in terms of size and other factors.

Sheets detailing the payments for various instruments and an application/order form are attached. All information and prices are provided to the best knowledge of the Music & Performing Arts Service but are subject to confirmation before entering into an agreement.
