Self Assessment, Case Studies and Evidence Collection
Self-Assessment
The Self Assessment was a key component of the JAR process. Written by the local authority and partners it provided an opportunity to assess how we thought we were doing prior to the JAR visit. This was then used as a key piece of evidence by the Inspectors during the JAR inspection.
The Self Assessment
- focused on evaluating the outcomes for children and young people and the impact of local children's services on improving those outcomes;
- assessed how far priorities are based on an accurate analysis of needs;
- evaluated the effectiveness of service delivery and service management;
- assessed how well resources had been used to improve services and outcomes for children and young people, and to provide value for money;
- provided evidence on how effectively services worked together to improve outcomes for children and young people;
- evaluated how well children and young people were consulted and what impact their views had on the planning of services; and
- showed how points for development from the 2005 APA or JAR were being tackled in current plans, and what progress had been made in terms of improving outcomes.

Case Studies
In addition to the Self Assessment we also compiled 20 pages of case study material which were submitted to inspectors. We received over 100 case study examples from across North East Lincolnshire.
Evidence
The Inspectors offered very clear guidance concerning the amount and method of presentation for the evidence we could put forward in support of the JAR self-assessment. The self-assessment and the evidence attached to it should present a picture of the work being done by North East Lincolnshire Council and its Partners, showing the impact on children and young people.
In addition to the self-assessment, the inspectors also presented a list of documents they required. These were burned to the CD-ROM along with the self-assessment and the hyperlinked evidence presented November 27th.
During Analysis Week (w/c 18th December), the Inspectors reviewed all presented evidence in detail. We also prepared a small library of hard-copy documents to present more of our evidence to them.
To support the Fieldwork Week, a small library of evidence was prepared.
Please note that none of the above documents offer hyperlinks to the evidence given to the inspectors. This is in order to maintain confidentiality. Use the link below to request sight of any specific documentary evidence offered and if appropriate the Team can make it available.
