East Ravendale Primary School opens new building this week

Pupils will start school this week in the newly refurbished premises at East Ravendale Church of England Primary School.  The building scheme, funded by North East Lincolnshire Council, has cost £1.5million and transformed the school making it suitable for 21st century learning.

The school's former site included an unsuitable hall, mobile classrooms and outside toilets.  The Victorian façade of the school has been refurbished to provide a new administration area and library; the former mobiles have been replaced with new build classrooms and a new hall and support spaces have been provided.

Wendy Fisher, head of capital and assets, said:  "The school is delighted with the new accommodation. With support from the local community we were able to move the school onto a temporary location on a neighbouring farm for the duration of the building works which minimised any health and safety implications.  The scheme has taken a year and the result is outstanding. Pupils, staff, governors and the local community can look forward to new premises that will inspire learning."

The scheme was designed by Neil Patience, principal architect for North East Lincolnshire Council, the principal contractor was ROK.

Councillor Margaret Cracknell, portfolio holder for children's services, said:   "The poor condition of the school at East Ravendale was highlighted as a priority for the council, therefore funding was allocated for the improvement work.  This is just one of the schemes we are undertaking this year to improve the condition of our school buildings. We are also undertaking boiler and roof replacements, rewiring, replacing heaters and addressing shortfalls in accommodation. We are delighted that the work at the school is now complete and the outcome meets the standards required for 21st century learning."

The school will hold a public open evening for the public on Wednesday, March 5, between 5.30pm and 7.30pm. The school welcomes former pupils, staff and governors  to attend the event and view the refurbished school first hand.
