Co-ordinated Admission Arrangements - First Admissions to all Infant and Primary Schools at age 5 (General Information)

Starting primary or infant school is one of the most important events in any child's life.  At this time parents/carers are naturally concerned to do the best for their children, but many feel uncertain about what to do.  To assist you with this process, we publish a booklet called Your New Primary School 2007-2008.

The aim of this booklet is to make it as easy as possible for parents to understand the procedures involved. The booklets go into a lot of detail to explain the rules and procedures the Council has to follow to ensure that the system works as fairly as possible.

In total, there are 15 infant and 29 primary schools Click here for a detailed list of primary schools in North East Lincolnshire

Note: Four of these schools will amalgamate in September 2007 and become primary schools:  Eastfield Infants and Eastfield Junior, Macaulay Infants and Macaulay Junior, the Federation of Old Clee Schools and South Parade Junior and South Parade Infants.

Children reach compulsory school age at the beginning of the term after their fifth birthday.  However all mainstream schools admit children earlier than this.  A child's admission may take place at either:

  • the term before a his/her fifth birthday (termly admissions),
  • the beginning of the autumn term, in the academic year in which the child is five.

Applications for admissions into infant/primary schools at normal times of admission or transfer are submitted on our application form Common Application Form (First Admissions) and for Casual Admission/Transfer Form (Primary).

Most parents prefer their children to go the local catchment school.  Sometimes, however, parents prefer a school outside their own catchment area, but may find that there are no places are available.  Inevitably, therefore, some parents may be disappointed and choose to appeal against this decision.  The Frequently Asked Questions contain a summary of the information parents need to understand about the admission policies and appeal process.

If your child was born between 1 September 2002 and 31 August 2003 your child will be eligible to attend school during the 2007-8 academic year.  The process for applying for school places will start in January 2007.

The Local Authority will issue information packs on how to apply for schools for the first time on 12 January 2007. The schools will issue these packs to any parents who have expressed an interest in applying for a place at that school. Alternatively you can apply online at Http://emsonline.nelincs.gov.uk/admit_transfer/at_welcome.asp. (only between 12 January 2007 and 2 March 2007).  The closing date for applications is 2 March 2007 and you will be informed of the result of your application on 20 April 2007.
