Biodiversity
Biodiversity is about the variety of our habitats and the variety of organisms within those habitats. All organisms are important from the smallest blade of grass at the base of the food chain to our selves at the top. No one organism lives in isolation. Each contributes to the balance of nature and the survival of the planet.
Nature provides the essential services that regulate our climate, control flooding, break down waste, pollinate our crops and cleans our water. It also provides essential products for life - Oxygen, food, drink, fuel, building materials, clothing and medicines. But nature does more than this - it inspires us, it helps us to understand our history and sense of place and belonging.
It is important to maintain and improve the quality of our natural environment. As the natural environment can only support human life, health and well being if its own resources are healthy. Therefore we must hand over to the next generations a world no less rich than the one we inherited.
North East Lincolnshire Council is represented, at officer level, on the Lincolnshire Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) Steering Group and is therefore working to deliver elements of that plan. Click on the link to the right of this page to access the Lincolnshire Biodiversity website.
