Conservation Services
North East Lincolnshire has a rich and diverse built heritage and historic environment. It ranges from earthworks in the Wolds villages to listed buildings and conservation areas. It takes in individual findspots and whole landscapes.
The role of conservation services is to protect and enhance this resource. Primarily this is carried out through the planning process. The archaeologist advises on all aspects of archaeology and the historic environment, whilst the conservation officer's expertise is with buildings, whether listed, locally listed or in a conservation area. The conservation officer also provides advice on design in conservation areas, projects effecting the setting of a listed building or other significant projects where his advice is sought. Complementing these the Landscape Design Officer offers professional advice on the appraisal, assessment and design of the landscape.
In addition to this specific advice, information about the buried and built heritage of North East Lincolnshire is held in the Historic Environment Record (HER), an inventory of sites, monuments and buildings throughout the Borough.
