Advice
The historic environment service provide advice to potential developers, landowners and land-users.
Most of the advice is connected with archaeology and development, where the Archaeologist advises the local planning authority on the impact of development proposals on the historic environment. This is based on planning policy and guidance set at a national, regional and local level. North East Lincolnshire Council has a framework of procedures and protocols for managing archaeology in the development process, which emphasise reducing risk to both the developer and our heritage.
One of the best ways of managing the process is for early discussions between the archaeologist and any potential developer. As well as the historic cores of Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Immingham there are over one thousand known archaeological sites throughout North East Lincolnshire.
If you are planning on making a planning application within or near any of these areas it would be beneficial to discuss the archaeological implications of your development at the earliest opportunity.
The Council for British Archaeology have produced a series of fact sheets on archaeology and planning matters
The North East Lincolnshire Council's Archaeologist also provides advice to landowners over Countryside Stewardship Schemes, good management of archaeological remains and can advise on proposals to promote and celebrate the historic environment.
Advice on Listed and Locally Listed Buildings and the management of Conservation Areas is provided by the Conservation Officer.
