Developing Contaminated Land within North East Lincolnshire
Local Authorities in Lincolnshire are receiving an increasing number of planning applications for developments on previously used land - often referred to as "brownfield" sites. In many cases these sites are affected by the presence of contamination from historic industrial processes.
The purpose of this guide is to make developers aware of their responsibilities and to set out what information the Council is likely to require in order to assess a planning application for land which may be contaminated.
The guide has been produced by the Lincolnshire Environmental Protection Liaison Group and endorsed by the Lincolnshire Development Control Forum. It was created to provide a consistent and transparent county-wide approach to the development of contaminated land and is written in accordance with relevant national guidance and legislation.
It is the Council's duty to ensure that owners and developers carry out the necessary investigations and put forward proposals for dealing with any contamination in a responsible and effective manner. Because of the complex and technical nature of this issue we strongly recommend that you appoint suitably qualified consultants to ensure you meet these obligations correctly and professionally.
