Passive Monitoring Results

Back to Air Quality Monitoring

Bias Adjusted Results - Nitrogen Dioxide

The table below contains the bias adjusted annual mean results obtained from the Council's passive monitoring network, for Nitrogen Dioxide, at different locations, within North East Lincolnshire, over various years.  Bias adjustment is a process that improves the accuracy of the reported diffusion tube results.   It is based on correction factors that can be calculated from comparisons between results obtained from both diffusion tubes and real time monitoring stations.

Recall that the annual mean National Air Quality Standard for Nitrogen Dioxide is 40 µg/m3.  The results highlighted in red and bold are in breach of this annual mean standard for Nitrogen Dioxide.

Note: Class refers to the type of location that the diffusion tube was positioned in - Kerbside = less than 1 meter from the kerb, Roadside = 2-5 meters from the kerb, Background = up to 50 meters away from major pollution sources.

Non-bias Adjusted Results - Benzene

The table below contains the raw annual mean results obtained from the Council's passive monitoring network, for Benzene, at different locations, within North East Lincolnshire, over various years.  Bias adjustment is currently not possible as the Council does not possess a real time analyser with which to compare the measured results against.

Recall that the annual mean National Air Quality Standard for Benzene is 5 µg/m3.

Important Note

It is important to recall that diffusion tube results can only be used as an indication of a potential air quality problem, nothing more.  They help to direct the positioning of more accurate real time monitoring stations which are needed to confirm or disprove the air quality problem at these locations.
