This page contains information and links to a range of information, much of which either guides or informs the policies of North East Lincolnshire Council.  In time, we expect to make available documents either used by the Authority in the promotion of the environment, or produced by the Authority for use by interested stakeholders such as schools, community groups and business.

Biodiversity

Government Policy

  • Prepared in partnership with a broad range of stakeholders in the public, voluntary and private sectors, " Working with the grain of nature" presents the national biodiversity strategy.  This sets the framework for the Lincolnshire Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP), and for the North East Lincolnshire (BAP).  Implementation is overseen by the UKBAP

Energy

Facts and Figures

  • Produced by the DTI, this digest provides a comprehensive array of facts or figures relating to our consumption of energy and its production.

Government Policy

  • "Our energy future" was published in 2003 and defines a long-term strategic vision for energy policy combining environmental, security of supply, competitiveness and social goals.
  • Preceding the Energy White Paper (see above), the Prime Minister Strategy Unit produced its Energy Review, looking at the long term challenges for energy policy in the UK.
  • Stimulating the debate on energy, the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution produced in June 2000 it report titled "Energy - The Changing Climate".  The report clearly sets out the seriousness of the environmental consequences of unrestrained energy use.

 

Fundingand Grants

Biodiversity

  • English Nature - Variety of grants focusing on nature conservation, habitat restoration and wildlife management are available from this national organisation.

Community Grants

  • Big Lottery Fund - Aimed at community transformation intended to regenerate and revitalise communities.

Energy

  • Clear Skies - Provides grants for householders and community to access the benefits of renewable energy. 
  • Practical Help - Promotes and supports innovative approaches to carbon reduction.
  • Solar Grants - Grants to all sectors aimed at the installation of photovoltaics

Various

  • Awards for All - A Lottery grants scheme aimed at local communities that enable people to take part in art, sport, heritage and community activities, as well as projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community
  • Esmée Fairbairn Foundation - Independent grantmaking foundation relating to Arts & Heritage, Education, Environment and Social Development.
  • Heritage Lottery Fund - Grants supporting projects involving the local, regional and national heritage of the United Kingdom.

Waste

  • WRAP - Provides funding for the creation of markets for recycled materials and products, while removing barriers to waste minimisation, re-use and recycling.
  • Entrust - Encourages landfill operators to support local community and environmental projects through tax credits

Agenda21

Facts and Figures

  • "Quality of life counts" provides a range of statistical information about sustainable development on a national, regional and local level.
  • The " State of the Countryside" report provides a regional picture of sustainable development in Yorkshire and Humber.  Produces by the Countryside Agency, the report offers economic, social and environmental indicators

Government Policy

  • "A better quality of life" is the UK's strategy on sustainable development.  A better quality of life provides a national focus from which local and regional action can follow.

Sustainable Travel

  • Transport has a major impact on the environment and plays a large role in the well-being of both our urban and rural populations.  This links provides information and guidance on more sustainable transport options

 

Waste

Government Policy

  • In 2000, the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) published its Waste Strategy.  This strategy establishes the basis on which the waste problem is to be dealt with locally.
  • DEFRA produces a range of guidance for local authorities on this issue of waste.  Following this link to understand more about the context in which the Authority operates on waste.
