Spatial Futures Team
What we do
The Spatial Futures Team is responsible for the preparation of statutory planning policy which shapes and guides the future development of the area.
These planning policies seek to promote sustainable development, assist economic growth, protect and enhance the environment and improve the quality of life for residents and users of the area.
The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 brought in major changes to the development plans system. Amongst these was the requirement for local planning autorities to prepare a new style local plan called a Local Development Framework.
The Local Development Framework is made up of a number of documents that together will provide the spatial planning framework for the Borough. Some of these documents will form part of the Statutory Development Plan together with the Regional Spatial Strategy and some of the saved policies in the exisitng North East Lincolnshire Local Plan.
The team provides input into the Regional Spatial Strategy for Yorkshire and the Humber and actively contributes to the North East Lincolnshire Urban Renaissance Programme. Yorkshire Forward has pursued a pioneering initiative to deliver strategic visions for the long term regeneration of six of the region's towns and cities, including the whole of North East Lincolnshire, promoting sustainable, quality environments.
