About the Appropriate Assessment
The purpose of the Appropriate Assessment is to aid the Council in it's responsibilities with regard to the Council Directive 92/43/EEC on the Conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora (EC Habitats Directive) and Conservation (Natural Habitats, & c.) Regulations 1994 (as amended). The aim of these regulations is to protect the habitats and species listed in Annex I and II of the Directive from adverse development.

In response to the Directives the Council employed Atkins Ltd to carry out an Approriate Assessment of the emerging Core Strategy on any Natura 2000 sites that could be aggected directly or indirectly by the strategy. Consultation
The Council is currently inviting comments on the Appropriate Assessment June 2007. The consultation period will run concurrently with that of the Core Strategy Preferrd Options commencing on the 25th June and ending on the 3rd August 2007.
