Is it true that there will be a stronger regional dimension?
The Act has raised the status of the regional guidance. Strategic policy will now be produced by the Regional Assembly and will form part of the 'development plan'. The Regional Planning policy is referred to as the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS). (Consultation commenced on the 16th January 2006, on a replacement for the existing RSS - this replacement document is referred to as 'The Yorkshire and Humber Plan.)
Structure Plans are to be superseded, but are currently saved until they are replaced by either the LDF documents or RSS.
Further information about the Regional Spatial Strategy can be found on the Yorkshire and the Humber Assembly web site at: http://www.yhassembly.gov.uk/ (external link)
