How to report a planning infringement/unauthorised works
Please let us know If you are aware of any unauthorised works or you think that someone may be doing something that does not have planning permission. Please note that we will not reveal your identity as your personal information is covered under both the Data Protection and Freedom of Information Acts.
Whilst there are various ways that you can report a possible breach of planning or highway legislation, we recommend that you put it in writing to us. We will acknowledge your report as per guidelines laid out in the Planning and Highways Enforcement manuals and may ask you for more information if we need it. On completion of the enquiry we will inform you of the outcome of the investigation if you have left details with which we can contact you.
You can make your report by any one of the following ways:

When making your report please provide the following information:
- details of what you wish to report about
- the address of the premises where the planning infringement/unauthorised works are being carried out
- the date you first noticed the planning infringement/unauthorised works
- any information you have about who owns the premises
- your name, address, phone number and e-mail address
- any other information that you feel may help us
When making your report it is useful if you provide your name and address. Reports will still be investigated should you wish to remain anonymous but by providing your name and address it helps us to ensure that a report is genuine and allows us to inform you of our findings upon completion of the enquiry. Often it is necessary to ask a member of the public to provide a witness statement should a case proceed to court, in which case the provision of your name and address is essential.
The Council takes unlawful development seriously and we will do all we can to resolve your concerns as quickly as possible. we will explore all avenues to resolve the situation that are open to use including if necessary taking formal legal action.
