What does a Social Worker do within the Referral and Assessment Team (RAS)?

The role of a Social Worker depends on the team that person works in so it will be slightly different in a mental health team to a Social Worker in a child care team. In the Referral and Assessment team the Social Worker's main role is to make assessments of what services may be appropriate for a child and family and attempt to access the services for that family. Social Workers also undertake child protection enquiries with the police when there are concerns that a child has suffered or is likely to suffer significant harm.
