All licenced taxis are fitted with a taxi meter that displays the tariff that is in use at the time the vehicle has been hired. The tariff varies depending on the time of day/evening the vehicle has been hired and also if it is a Public Bank Holiday.
The Council controls the tarriff and is responsible for the implementation of any fare increase. This is done by Public Notice in the local newspaper, if after 14 days there are no objections to the suggested increase then the new tariff will be implemented. All meters are tested and sealed with a symbol, dated and signed each time there is a change in tariff or a change in vehicle.

If you do wish to make a complaint regarding overcharging then please contact the Hackney Carriage office who will send you a complaint form.
