Lisa King
Job Title: Urban Regeneration & Renaissance Manager
Hours: Full Time Location: Origin 2, Europarc
How long have you worked here? With NELC since 1st April 1996
What does a typical working day for you involve? Meeting with members of the Team so as to have full knowledge of issues around all of the projects being developed and delivered across North East Lincolnshire. Co-ordinating project delivery of physical projects being led by the Council as part of the Urban renaissance Programme. Managing people, timescales & resources. Meeting potential investors or their agent to look at proposals for regenerating the area. Participating in Corporate or Local Strategic Partnership meetings representing the regeneration element of projects to ensure that the maximum benefits are realised and that projects are joined up.
Do you need any qualifications or specific training? (If not, what were your circumstances?) I came from a planning background. BSC (Hons) Environmental Studies obtaining planning assistant role (including training to achieve PG Diploma Town & Regional Planning). Moved from planning, to environmental policy to Economic Development. Combining all these skills led me to work on physical development projects and regeneration schemes.
What do you enjoy most about your job? Variety - no two days are the same. Meeting people - community, investors. Making a difference - cheesy, but I can look at areas and know I made a difference
What is the most challenging part of your job? Time management - balancing corporate requirements and the ever changing needs of dynamic projects. Realising that you can never please all the people all the time, but trying any way!
Is there any progression opportunities in your career? Within the Team we have 3 Project Officers, a Project Co-ordinator, an Economic Development Officer and a programme co-ordi nator. Each stage progression is dependant upon experience and skill. Within the team a number of people have progressed through these stages as our careers have progressed.
If you could change one aspect of your job what would it be? Duplication of bureaucratic processes which slow down project delivery.
What inspires or motivates you to do your job on a daily basis? Making a difference. Seeing the physical change to the area.
Any additional comments? I thoroughly enjoy my job. I finally feel that I use all my skills and knowledge built up through the various elements of my career.
