School Crossing Patrol Initiative

Hundreds of school pupils around North East Lincolnshire have been helping to keep their school crossing wardens safe in a new initiative, which was run by the Human Resources department at North East Lincolnshire Council, when pupils took part in the 'design a new uniform for the school crossing patrol competition'.

The winning design was by Saskia Garner (seven), from the Queen Mary Infant School who beat off more than 700 applicants and received £30 in prize money.

"I used a lot of bright colours because you can see the uniform better then when it is dark," she said.

The winners were awarded their prizes by mayor Coun Stewart Swinburn and mayoress Coun Karen Swinburn, in a ceremony at Grimsby Town Hall.

Laura Bennett, recruitment initiatives team manager at North East Lincolnshire Council invited children at schools from around the area to take part in this competition - part of an initiative to publicise the job of crossing patrol wardens and as a result, the Council has seen an increased number of applications for this job.

Below are images of the event and the winning drawings.
