What does a typical working day for you involve?
E.g. Friday 7 September - Into the office for 7.30 a.m. check telephone messages and e-mails. Run of documents ready for meeting later in the morning. 8.00 Heads of Service Meeting at the Education Development Centre (EDC). Extended meeting to cover the Hear by Rights audit. 10.30 a.m. Change4Children Partnership - Performance Board meeting at the EDC. Back to the office for 1.30 p.m. - sort out papers and actions from the Performance Board. Check telephone messages and e-mails and respond. 3.30 p.m. review the implications for the team ready for the accommodation moves as we have been informed that we have to be out of our offices within 3 weeks for a 3 month period whilst Freeman Way Offices are refurbished. 4.30 p.m. home time.
Do you need any qualifications or specific training?
- Diploma in Management Studies.
- Project Management training.
- Financial training.
- Joint Commissioning training.
- Wide knowledge of Children's Services.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The fact that we are now working together across all partnerships, with children and young people to improve the lives of children and young people.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
Developing the integration of the functions across all partner organisations who work with children, young people and their families - integration of governance, strategies, policies, commissioning, workforce development.
Is there any progression opportunities in your career?
The next level up is Deputy Director.
If you could change one aspect of your job what would it be?
Nothing in my job. In others - resistance to change - we've done it this way for 20 years, why change.
What inspires or motivates you to do your job on a daily basis?
The children and young people that I come into contact with through the Council for Young People and the Children's Fund. They are so motivated to improve services for all children and young people in North East Lincolnshire. It's inspiring!!
