HeartWell A multi-agency Initiative Promoting Positive Heart Health
|
| Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is the single most common cause of premature death in England and Wales, accounting for approximately 300 deaths each day. As well as life expectancy, CHD also has effects on quality of life, employment prospects and independent living.
In 1994 the HeartWell project was set up as a joint initiative between the Health Authority and the local authorities which now form part of North and North East Lincolnshire. Its aim was to tackle the life style factors that increase the risk of CHD - which include smoking, poor diet, lack of physical exercise, obesity and high blood pressure. Initially intended to be a 2-year project it has gone from strength to strength and is now in its 8th year.
It aims to give people at community level the information and finances to enable projects to take place which tackle the risk factors mentioned above and over the period of its existence it has helped hundreds of organisations large and small to put their ideas into action.
