Far from being a 'cultural backwater' North East Lincolnshire is home to a wealth of cultural activity, from large-scale festivals to professional theatre productions and from music performances to visual arts exhibitions.
Much of this activity is supported in some way by North East Lincolnshire Council's arts development unit. Also adding to the cultural mix is a plethora of artists living and working in the region and creating work in visual art, film, contemporary dance, music, textiles, written and spoken word and photography many of which again are supported by the unit in some way.
The team, in line with the council's Cultural Strategy exists to develop and support the arts community and its activities, whether this be initiating and developing cultural events for the enjoyment of the community, supporting artists and organisations in their work or supporting the promotion of arts activities and events across the region.

Lit.com Festival
The Lit.Com festival is North East Lincolnshire's annual literature and comedy festival taking place in October. It is hosted by North East Lincolnshire Council's Arts Development Team in conjunction with a range of partners and features live author events, workshops, film-screenings, the best in UK stand-up and children's theatre productions.
Meniscus Film Festival
Based in Grimsby, Meniscus Films promotes independent films and film-making and hosts an exciting programme of events, as well as an annual international film-making competition. It also has its own You Tube Channel where a host of films, from shorts to feature length, produced by local, national and international film-makers can be seen.
Arts Forum Festival
The Arts Forum Festival is an annual summer festival showcasing the amateur and professional work of its members alongside touring professional companies. This year it runs from July 14 to August 10.
