Wild Cherry

Wild Cherry

Prunus avium

Maximum height 60ft (20m).

The Wild Cherry prefers clay soils over chalk and is a common component in a beech wood.

When well grown and canker free it provides a valuable timber more quickly than other broadleaved trees.

The small red berries whilst not poisonous, are not edible. They will however provide a feast for birds in early summer.
