Grimsby Jazz once again presents the festival's opening concert, this time celebrating the legendary jazz pianist Bill Evans. Bill redefined the piano, bass, drums trio, in which all three players became interactive improvisers. John Horler as a leading exponent of this style of trio playing is the ideal choice to celebrate with his regular partners Jeff Clyne on double bass and Trevor Tomkins on drums. Bill also recorded some groundbreaking duet albums - to highlight this aspect of Bills' genius Pat McCarthy will take on the Jim Hall role. There were also some marvellous collaborations with a string orchestra - these will be replicated by music maestro Barry Whitfield joining John's trio on synthesiser for the final set.
