Churches
Introduction
Welcome to some of the most wonderful and unique experiences to be found in North East Lincolnshire - our churches.
The port of Grimsby and holiday town of Cleethorpes together with their hinterland includes some of the best ecclesiastical architecture to be found in England.
This site details seventeen of North East Lincolnshire's churches, all which invite you to visit and discover their rich heritage. These buildings, which were built over many centuries, hold the history of their communities and some are linked with famous people of the area. The rector of Laceby was once the Elizabethan Archbishop John Whitgift, a Grimsby man. The wealthy London merchant Matthew Humberstone rebuilt the church in the village, which bore his name, although he was not born locally.
All our churches offer you a quiet oasis to pause and reflect and furthermore, perhaps their individual beauty will lead you to the contemplation of riches beyond...
