Ashby Cum Fenby
there's more than just countryside!
The following information has been compiled by Matthew Humberston School with the aid of North East Lincolnshire Council.
Ashby cum Fenby is a small, elegant village containing many interesting and historical facts. For example, the A18 that today passes through the village is situated on a cliff line and, in the days before the Ice Age the sea would have lapped the shores! As the ice melted, two hamlets Ashby and Fenby grew on this land. In the medieval period they joined together to create one village which took the name Ashby cum Fenby.
Another entertaining fact is that if are in search of a post office along Post Office Lane, you will be disappointed. Quite simply there isn't one! And for some equally surprising reason there can be no chapel found down Chapel Lane!
The ancient church of St Peter is well worth visiting. Dating from 1230, the church contains an alms box dating 1150, a font dating 1400 and a memorial to Sir Christopher Wray.
