Brigsley

there's more than just countryside!

The following information has been compiled by Matthew Humberston School with the aid of North East Lincolnshire Council.

Of Anglo Saxon origins this little village is situated in the foothills of the north eastern edge of the Wolds.

The oldest cottage in the village is well worth a look, built around the 16th century ' thatched cottage' has also served as a local village shop. The roof was re-thatched in 1978 at a cost of £1500 of which £500 was donated by Cleethorpes Borough Council.

Two other buildings are worthy of a mention.

The church of St Helen, which is sited on Saxon and Norman foundations, its history can be seen almost entirely within the western tower. The base is of Norman origin, followed by a 13th century lancet window, 15th century battlements and four 18th century gargoyles!

Finally, a visit to the little ice cream shop tucked away along one of the lanes. Mouth-watering home-made ice cream can be sampled here and the varieties are simply delicious!
