Grimsby Heritage - Strand School

Strand School is to be found on Bridge Street and was built in 1860. Formally known as St. Andrews School it was reputed to be one of the most advanced in the country with its playground situated on the roof of the building. This is very unusual and it is believed there are only four other schools remaining in England with this feature. During the Second World War pupils were not allowed to use the playground due to the threat of bombing, to this day bullet marks can still be found on the brickwork.
