The Dolphin Hotel
The Dolphin Hotel is said to be the oldest hotel in Cleethorpes. Alexander Grant Thorold owned the land on which the hotel was built on and he also ran the pub. It was originally constructed in the 1820's and extended in 1873, this is shown by the difference in the brickwork of the front building. The Dolphin is situated centrally, close to the pier and more importantly a few minutes walk from the railway station. Before the railway was built a horse-drawn tram transported holiday makers to the hotel. The seafront position made the hotel very popular for people travelling from afar to the seaside. The sea air was fresh to their lungs and the seawater was most probably cleaner than the water from their own villages!
