Wold Newton

there's more than just countryside!

The following information has been compiled by Matthew Humberston School with the aid of North East Lincolnshire Council.

This small yet quaint village is located in between two sloping valleys that cause severe flooding during the winter season.

The tiny village is extremely rich in fascinating history. A coin dating all the way back to 114AD was recently found in an archaeological dig. During the Middle Ages, Wold Newton was a thriving town, twice the size it is now, however the population was drastically reduced due to the Black Death and also a change in farming practises from sheep to corn.

Long before Julius Caesar arrived in England with his many legions, early Britons must have favoured the site as traces of a primitive community were found when twenty Bronze Age urns were discovered in an archaeological dig a century ago.
