Frequently Asked Questions

There is more going on in your local library than you think.

Information and picture books, Goosebumps and Point Horror, Harry Potter, videos and talking books, you can find them all at your nearest library.

The most common questions we are asked about the library service are:

How old must I be to join?

It is possible to join at any age, the younger the better.

How do I join?

Just fill in a registration form and ask either your Mum or Dad or whoever looks after you to sign it. Return the completed form along with proof of the name and address of the adult who signed the form, as well as a copy of their signature, and we will make you a member of the library.

How much does it cost to join?

It is free.

How many books can I borrow?

Members of the library can borrow up to ten books and seven talking books. Talking books are cassettes of people reading stories. They are free to borrow.

At which libraries can I use my ticket?

If you have a library ticket it can be used at any library in North East Lincolnshire.

What if I can't find anything I want to read?

Please ask the staff.

Can the library help me do my homework?

Every library has a wide selection of information books, which will take the worry and hassle out of doing your homework. It is also worth looking in our homework boxes, there is one in every library. Each box is devoted to a particular subject. Why not check out our page of links to other websites to help you with your homework.

Each junior library also has a junior reference section. In these sections there are encyclopaedias, atlases and dictionaries. You are almost guaranteed to find what you are looking for, so forget homework blues and visit your nearest library.

What else is there to do apart from borrowing books?

Videos that are too exciting for adults to watch are marked with a yellow spot and kept separately from adult videos.    They can be taken out on a children's ticket.   We have everything from the Teletubbies to Doctor Who.If you like music your local library is also the place to be.  We buy every top ten CD. Up to seven CDs can be borrowed at any one time.  There is a  small charge to borrow  DVDs, CDs and Videos

If you visit Grimsby Junior Library at 4.00pm on the first Monday of each month you can join an exclusive book group called Chatterbooks. Once a month they meet to play games, enter competitions, hear stories, and have fun. New members are always welcome. There is also a Chatterbooks group who meet at Humberston Library on the first Thursday of each month from 3.45 - 4.45 pm.
