Wake up to local talent

Libraries Showcasing the Arts in North East Lincolnshire

Announcing a new scheme for local artists, writers and musicians promoted by North East Lincolnshire Council's Library Services and Arts Development Team. Local creative people are invited to donate two copies of their work on CD, DVD or in book/booklet to the Library Service for new collections at Grimsby and Cleethorpes libraries. No charge for submitting work and no limit to the amount of work submitted. The free loan scheme will be formally launched on 17 March 2007

Q. Who can submit work?

A. Anyone who is a resident in NE Lincolnshire and who has creative work they would like to donate to the Library Service for loan to the General Public.

Q. What sort of work is eligible?

A. Any work that can be shown on CD, DVD or printed book/booklet format can be donated provided it could be reasonably described as creative work. That is to say a book of short stories or poems would be eligible but a factual book about the history of the docks, for example, would not be. The same considerations apply to CD and DVD submissions. Art prints burned onto a CD could be submitted but art prints themselves could not be. Anyone who has any questions about this aspect of the scheme that are not covered by this factsheet should contact David Power on 323350 or dave.power@nelincs.gov.uk

Q. Will all work submitted be accepted?

A. No. The Council wants to include as much work as possible although it has to reserve the right to refuse work. In practice, it will only refuse work if the work submitted could reasonably be described as illegal, offensive, exploitative or pornographic or if the work is not really creative work or if there are concerns about matters such as copyright. If work is rejected, NE Lincolnshire Council regrets it will not be able to enter into any correspondence with the submitter of the work in question on the subject. Acceptance of this is a condition of entry into this scheme. On the other hand, the scheme is not a competitive one. Work will not be rejected on grounds of quality.

Q. How do I submit Work

A. Download this document WakeUpAgreement.doc which should be included with your work

Q. Is there any charge for submitting work?

A. No

Q. Is there any limit as to how much work I can submit?

A. No although NE Lincolnshire Council reserves the right to impose limits should more work be submitted than it can practically accommodate.

Q. What will you do with the work submitted?

A. It will be catalogued and made available for free loan at Grimsby Central Library and Cleethorpes Library from areas of these libraries specially designated for this scheme. It is hoped we can extend the scheme to other libraries though we are mindful that these other libraries have considerable challenges concerning the amount of space they would have available for such a scheme.

Q. When will my work be available for loan at the two libraries?

A. The scheme will be launched on 17 March 2007 and we aim to have all work catalogued and available for loan on that date. However, it is an ongoing scheme and work can be submitted at any time. Work submitted after 17 March 2007 will be available for loan as soon as the Library Service has been able to catalogue it.

Q. If I want my work back after six months or so, what do I do?

A. Any work submitted to this scheme becomes the property of NE Lincolnshire Council and is therefore not returnable. Please note however, this has no bearing on the matter of copyright. The artist retains full copyright of their own work.

Q. What do I do if I have questions not covered by this fact sheet.

A. If the questions concern the practicalities of the scheme, please contact Anna Brader on 01472 323627 or anna.brader@nelincs.gov.uk. If the question is about the artistic aspects of the scheme, please contact David Power on 01472 323350 or dave.power@nelincs.gov.uk
