Schools Visits
As well as a lively programme of informal events, the Fishing Heritage Centre offers an ever widening range of schools workshops.
Class Visits
A class visit to the centre costs £2 per child with adults going free. We can accept groups of up to 55 (this includes adults). Coach parking and lunch facilities are available.
A standard visit to the centre consists of a trip aboard the ex-Grimsby Trawler the Ross Tiger, a tour of the centre and an object handling session. The handling session can be adapted to suit your class topic, please enquire about this when booking.
We are currently working on a number of National Curriculum based workshops relating to our collection. These include 'The Seaside' for KS1 and 'Post War Grimsby' for KS2. They are currently being piloted and will be introduced at the beginning of autumn term 2007. Watch this space for more details.
Temporary Exhibition Workshops
We already offer workshops relating to our temporary exhibitions, which in the past have included the highly successful KS2 'Andy Goldsworthy: The Art of Nature' session. In the autumn/winter we will be running workshops to coincide with our 'Magic of Masks and Puppets' exhibition. Please contact us for more details.
School Object Loans
We have an extensive school loans collection called 'Handling History'. These are due to undergo a revamp over summer and will be fresh and new for loans in September. Among other topics the collection includes boxes on WW2 and the Victorians. Please contact us for more details.
Outreach
Our Schools Outreach programme has taken a variety of forms over the past year; we have done assemblies relating to exhibitions and the work of museums as well as object handling with classes. This is currently free of charge to NE Lincs schools until September 2007 as it is being developed. Please contact us if you have any ideas, we are always open to suggestions!
