The snow makes way for the Blue Bells.
Bradley and Dixon Woods are situated on the south side of Grimsby, just off the A46 on the B1444. We know there has been woodland on this site for 1000 years, as it is mentioned in the Domesday book of 1086, with reference to the village of Bradley and the 'broad-wood'.
The importance of Bradley and Dixon Wood is recognised by the council as an ancient woodland, so in 1998 they declared it a Local Nature Reserve, the first Local Nature Reserve in North East Lincolnshire. It is mainly broad leaf woodland, attracting a wide variety of wildlife associated with that habitat.
Opening times of Bradley Woods vary depending on the time of year, but a good rough guide is from dawn to dusk. There is parking for about eight cars on the left, just after entering the woods. This is also the bird feeding area and we advise you to put bird food out and then return to your car to watch the birds. Should you wish to continue into the woods, there is another car park and picnic area.
A group called Friends of Bradley and Dixons Wood is being created. If you would like to be involved with this group, please contact Sue Pearson on 01472 325812 or e-mail sue.pearson@nelincs.gov.uk
